Roger's Revisited

Over the weekend, Hubs wanted to go for cream bath and immediately we thought of Roger's. I would say the last weekend has been a massage weekend for me. On Friday, before I met up with Hubs and his colleagues, I went to Mitra Sehat for 1.5 hours body session which cost me RM 50 (including Rp 20,000 tip for the masseuse). On Saturday, Roger's it was for cream bath. You can read about the low down details of it in my previous post. And so off we went, after lunch at Mastro.

OK.. I did something which I previously dare not. For the heck of it, I requested for a blow-dry. The stylist, before she started, asked if I would prefer a "normal" v.s. a "mengembung" style. Guessing that "mengembung" would mean puffed-up hair ala mak datin, I replied "normal" is fine.

This is how my normal home blow-drying will result...
TA-DA! Normal blow-dry Indonesia style. Hubs called me Power Puff that day.
The closest I get to look like a Mak Datin, don't you agree? ;p

A night of fun at T-Rex Family Karaoke at Gandaria City

Got invited to one of Hubs company outing. And this karaoke is the nicest one I have been to so far. We had a big room to fit something like 15 of us with 3 plasma TV to hoot and computerised songs selection.
Check out the psychedelic disco ball!
A bongo to jazz up the fun!
Smoke machine in action!
Scoreboard to tell you if you can make it as a singer :)
One thing I do realised, is that Indonesia is more successful in establishing a single-nation identity than us. Having observed Hub's colleagues on Friday night karaoke session, irregardless of race and religion, all of them can sing Indonesian songs, be it pop, rock, and even dangdut!

Recipe for Sleepless in Jakarta

I suffer from the occasional insomnia. Mostly is triggered by a snoring husband. Rarely, the late night green tea/black tea cuppa.. But tonight is ESPECIALLY bad! Because all these ingredients decided to jump into the mixing bowl at one go...

- 1 tablet of migraine meds taken at lunch time (which contained 100mg of caffeine) to ward off the ominous unilateral headache
- 1 teaspoon of Tie Kuan Yin tea leaves steeped in a pot of hot water, of which the last sip was taken at something like close to 10pm (I should have known better, but alas, confidence got the better of me)
- The snoring husband, which aggravated the caffeine overload
- Finding the right position, shifting from one side to the other with a not-so-soundproof pillow over the opposite ear...
- ... to finding the right room to sleep in (I shifted from master room to the spare room and finally settling for the hall because spare room is polluted by the cacophony of late night/early morning Jakarta traffic
- The resultant: A hyperactive brain with synapses firing off like crazy with all these ungodly-hour activities

It's gonna be a loooooong day ahead.. *trying to fake a yawn*

*smacks forehead* GOSH! I'M SO AWAKE!!

Eats: Breakfast at Social House

Affectionately known as SoHo by the locals, breakfast at Social House is definitely a must. This is my 2nd time here and it's always a 2-thumbs up experience for the amazing and scrumptious breakfast. Located on the 1st floor next to Harvey Nichols supermarket section at Plaza Grand Indonesia, SoHo starts their breakfast service as early as 830am.

If you are feeling especially hungry go for the All-Time Favourites which was Hub's choice. You get a choice of bacon, ham or sausage serve with eggs, aragula rocket salad, grilled tomatoes, baked beans and beautifully sauted potatoes served on the side.

I decided to try their Eggs Benedict which was served on lightly buttered toasted country bread with ham and melted mozzarella cheese. Yummyliciously to-die-for!!

Towards the end of our meal, I noticed that there were quite a fair bit of Muslim patrons. Which Hubs explained that the locals here are very chillax on this sorta thing. They are perfectly OK to dine in a restaurant that serves pork. They just do not order pork that's all. Refreshingly tolerant i would say!

Eats: Paying Homage to Porky Pig @ Kedai Kenanga

It's not easy finding pork dishes in Jakarta. So when Hubs found Kedai Kenanga, he was as excited as his 5 year-old nephew Willliam opening his Christmas pressie.

Tucked in a rather quiet looking arcade near where Hubby is staying, Kenanga serves anything that gotta do with Porky Pig. From barbequed pork, roast pork, 5-spiced pork wrapped in tofu skin, pork satay to pork siew mai and heck they even have stewed porky ears. Yep.. you read the last one right. Order the special and you get all of them served with rice in a single dish.

Eats: Nasi Padang @ Garuda Restaurant

This is another must-try on the Indonesian foodie list. Not because I am "wow-ed" by how good the food is, but try it for the dining experience. The very moment we sat down, the dishes just kept coming, and coming and coming. Until we actually have a spread of at least 20 plates of meat and vegetable dishes in front of us.

The way to start is to ONLY take what interest your taste buds. Because there's a catch to it. If you tried something which you did not like the taste, you will be charged even though you did not finish it. And now you wonder, what do they do with the rest of the dishes that you did not touch? Well, the restaurant actually "recycles" it for the next customer that comes in. And there lies the second catch: GO EARLY during the lunch hour. If you can, be the 1st customer of the day.
Verdict: Good enough Malay-esque cuisine that's slightly overpriced (in my opinion)

And this is how much food we had on the dining table.
