Now that's what I call a very happy name!

I always make it a habit to browse hotel information booklet that's provided in every hotel rooms that we checked into. And this particular booklet caught my eye because of the name of the general manager, which in Cantonese, literally means very happy. I can imagine his parents must have been very happy to have Mr Ho born into this world to name him this.

Will the real SPG please stand up?

I finally saw this ad for vacancy while grocery shopping at a hypermarket in my neighbourhood. It's actually a very plain ad, except for the word SPG. I first came across this acronym through some Indonesia blogs where I found out that it means Sales Promotion Girl over here. And now contrast this to my all-this-while understanding of the other meaning of SPG, which is Sarong Party Girl - a term loosely used to described Asian girls who exclusively date and prefer white men!

Of Bir, Chanel and Porky Pig

After we moved into our new place here in Malaysia, Hubs and I went to a nearby hypermarket to pick up some groceries for the house. As we wandered into the alcohol section, Hubs was searching high and low of Bintang Beer and wondering out loud why he can't seems to find it, when I gently reminded him that we are back home in Malaysia. After making his selection and placed the cans into the shopping cart, as we were making our way out, I caught this silly signage which further affirm our physical presence here in Malaysia. Certainly, I have not come across such signages in supermarket in Indonesia when it is the largest Muslim country.

And I can't help but to compare this silly signage against a photo I have taken of a funny artsy sculpture on public display while window-shopping at Grand Indonesia. I'll let you draw your own conclusion.
To quote a remark from an acquaintance when this person saw this picture on Facebook, "Chanel and roast pork: life's essentials" ;)

Spotted: Tailor on A Bike

Saw this mobile tailor in my neighbourhood when I was walking back from the supermarkets. Rather ingenious, don't u think?

Koi and His Gank of Gastronomy Afficionados!

Quirky art displays @ Pullman Jakarta Central Park

A very new hotel in the city with some pretty interesting modern art displays. Too bad Hubs's friend arrived and cut short my photo taking sessions. Here are a few that I managed to snap...

Christmas tree made out of Coca-Cola cans.

On closer inspection, the steel sillhouette has a pretty perky bum-bum. I'm serious! ;p

One word: Provocative!

Ingenious cup-carrier of Kiliney Kopitiam in Singapore

Came across this simple but ingenious cup-carrier at Tanah Merah ferry terminal in Singapore while making our way to Bintan island.

Left: Common cardboard cupholder. Taken at Starbucks in Changi Airport
Middle: Jazzed-up cupholder made out of napkins. Taken at Cafe Batavia in Jakarta
Right: Cup-carrier fashioned out of flimsy polystyrene. Quite the fashion statement eh!

Weird vegetables

I'm not sure if this is a norm but have you ever encountered a half-cut capsicum to grow another offspring? Well I have. I used half of the capsicum and kept the 2nd half refrigerated for almost a week. And when I took it out over the weekend for another stir-fry, capsicum was growing another baby. Anyhow, all made it into the stir-fry, baby or not. Hehe

Get real! Jamie Oliver in Jakarta?!

Well... not the man himself, but his brand of bottled pasta sauces. Saw this while doing grocery shopping in Kem Chicks in Pacific Place over the weekend.  Looks like preparing a Jamie Oliver meal is now even a lot easier without poring over his cookbooks!

Sunset in Jakarta

Caught a glimpse of the setting sun through the french blinds and couldn't resist the picture moment. Don't you just love the burnt orangy sky...

Funnies on Long Beach Menu @ Senayan

Hubs was entertaining a colleague, and so we went to Long Beach (of the famed crab institution in Singapore) at Senayan City for dinner. Check out their hilarious offerings..

This must be a new transgender species. Wonder how it taste like?

A hint of the price you would be paying for the wine.
Can be "peppered and vinegared" (ka yim ka cho, as how one would say in Cantonese)

And this is really a first for me. As I was slowly enjoying my black pepper crab claw, one of the waiters, obviously thought that I was struggling with the claw, politely asked me if I need help to break it down.  Or perhaps it is the norm for Indonesian high society to have someone break the crab claws for them. Talk about personalised services! Hmm... makes you wonder what they think when they see how Malaysians do it - claw wrapped in a tissue, hammer in hand and start pounding away.

Happy Birthday Indonesian-style

While I do not know who the man of the hour is, but I reckon he must be a favourite customer of Ferrari Maserati Indonesia. This was taken just outside one of the main entrances to Pacific Place Mall.

And by the way, these seems to be the standard sizes of congratulatory flower stands I have seen on numerous occasion in Jakarta. Quite a statement eh..!

Help! I need me shades from the highlighter yellow!

WOW! The highlighter-yellow is so striking that it's reflecting off the wet tar road. Spotted near Damansara on Friday afternoon.

Art in the city @ Pacific Place Jakarta

I just gotta snap a photo of this rather cute, funny looking statue while window shopping few weeks back in Jakarta. Because he reminded me of the Fantastic Mr Fox, which featured the voice of George Clooney as the urbane Mr Fox who couldn't resist going back to his farm-raiding days while battling issues of family responsibility and moral dilemma. Cute ain't it? :)

During that time, Pacific Place was having an art exhibition where statues, sculptures and display art pieces by Indonesian artists were tastefully placed at various locations in the mall for free public viewing. On a weekly basis, Pacific Place also has themed displays and just the week before, it was having a sea world theme featuring various man-made styrofoam sea creatures hanging from its roof/ceiling and a 8ft long ship made entirely of gummy bears to hoot. That sure attracted a lot of kids with their mummies and daddies for photo opportunity in front of the ship.

Is that a CCTV @ Hokkien Mee at Damasara Uptown?!

I just came back from eating the famous Damansara Uptown hokkien mee. While paying for dinner bill, I noticed an oddity. Lo and behold, this unassuming makan place actually has CCTV surveillance installed and the cashier actually monitors the patrons sitting along the five-foot-way. Don't play-play k.. HAHAHA

And oh by the way, I discovered another gem also. For those of you who have heard and tried the famous Tanjong Malim Pepper Meehoon Soup, you can now satisfy your cravings and save some petrol and toll money, and order at this restaurant. It's called
Pork Soup Meehoon and trust me, it comes heavily-armed with pepper.

Enjoy!
